2005 IMTT Fall Classic Winners

Lake Shelbyville Fall Classic Sets a High Standard…

The 2005 “The Lake Shelbyville Fall Muskie Classic” is over and can officially be called two things: 1.) A real community effort, and 2.) A success.

The rebirth of this annual fishing event started with organization and volunteers provided by the Illinois Muskie Tournament Trail, and the Lake Shelbyville Muskie Club. Numerous other community groups and businesses pulled together to make this and extremely enjoyable and rewarding two days. Sponsorships services from the Shelby County Bureau of Tourism, Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Shelby Inn, Spillway Motel, Gregory’s Resort Motel, Lithia Resort, Crestliner Boats, and Klauser Marine all helped to put on a very classy Classic, including a great looking banner provided by Cam Wallace, of Sports World in Champaign. Participants and guests alike raved about the food and service at Saturday evening’s dinner at the Shelbyville Moose Lodge Hall.

What about the fishing? A long time muskie fisherman once said, “The worse the weather, the better the muskie fishing!” With that in mind you would think that the 80 degree temperatures and blue skies seen on October 2nd and 3rd would have made the muskies scarce. But excellent fishermen always seem to have some magic way to produce fish. In all, 29 muskies were caught, measured, and released. 22 came on Saturday, and 7 more on the half-day tournament wrap-up Sunday.

The prize for the largest fish caught went to Nick Nigro who boated a hefty 44 inch beauty.

The place winners were:

1st Place – Duane Landsmeier and Victor Fox - 4 fish, totaling 149.5 inches
2nd Place – Walter and Jeff Krause - 3 fish, totaling 116.5 inches
3rd Place - Nick and Cindy Nigro - 3 fish, totaling 113 inches
